How to add a new user account in Windows 7

A number of users can share the same computer in Windows 7. Each user can have his own location for the personal files and documents and pictures. Different types of user accounts are possible in Windows 7. This article explains about how to craate a new user account in Windows 7 computer.


How to add a new user account in Windows 7


The user interface for creating new user accounts in Windows 7 is quite different from that of Windows XP. If you are updatging from Windows XP to Windows 7 skipping Windows Vista, then this article might be of help to you.

Lot of changes have taken place in the user accounts interface in Windows 7 from previous versions of Windows. There are different user account types in Windows 7. Let us see how we can add a new user account in Windows 7.

  • First open the Control Panel by clicking on Start --> Control Panel. Now Control panel windows opens up as shown in the screen shot below.

  • Now click on 'Add or remove user accounts' option in the Control panel window under 'User Accounts and Family Safety' as shown in the figure above.

  • Now you will be able to see the 'Manage Accounts' window as shown in the figure below. You can see all the accounts already available in your computer. There is a link 'Create a new account' at the bottom. You need to click on that link to create a new user account. See the screen shot below.

  • Now you will see a new screen for creating a new user account. You have to type the name of the new user account which you want to create. After that you have to select the type of account that is required. It can be an Administrative account or a Standard user account. An Administrative account has full access to the computer. The Standard user account type has limited priveleges only. It is normal practice to set all the users as Standard user account type. This is safe for your computer and protects your computer from virus and malware. Once you finish selecting the name of new user account and the account type, you can click on the button labelled 'Create Account'. Please see a screen shot below.

  • That is all. Your new account has been created now and you will see it in the list of user account. Here I have created a new user account named as 'Ramesh_Kumar'.
