Features removed from Windows 7

This article explains the features that are removed from Windows 7 which are present in pervious operating system due to the customer feedback, performance issues, and workaround for some of the features
Features removed from Windows 7
Windows 7 operating system removed some of which is available in Windows Vista. It happened for the previous operating system too. Some of the features are removed because that feature is not worthy to users or they Microsoft might revamped the whole features to make a new one.
When you open the
Control Panel
in Windows Vista and right click the mouse button and you can see different view for control panel like Extra Larger Icons, Larger Icons , Medium Icons, Small and many other views, but in Windows 7 there is no option to modify the view in control panel. Not is its limited to Small icons and large icons.
Windows Explorer of 32 machines cannot run in Windows 7 64 bit processor. Windows 7 allows executing the 32-bit shell extension in Windows 32 bit system and 64 bit shell extension in 64 bit processor. Windows XP and Windows Vista allow executing 32 bit shell extension as the default.
Windows 7 Windows Explorer does not save the individual Folder Windows positions and sizes. All the folder shares then same size and position in Windows 7 in order to increase the performance of the system this options is removed.
Windows Sidebar
is removed from Windows 7, now you can move the desktop gadgets any place in the desktop. No need to have a sidebar to keep the desktop gadgets.
Windows Vista supports individual selection when it is shown as details view; Windows 7 removed this feature by forcing you to select the full row.
When you viewed a default Library in Windows 7 and when you navigate to another folder and it will take the default view of the library and you cannot customize the view. Windows vista supports the customization when you move from library to another folder.
Auto arrange
functionality is not available in Windows 7, It is available only desktop. You can't use this functionality in Windows Explorer.
Windows taskbar network icon animation
cannot be activated in Windows 7, now it will show you want type of network connection you are using and the internet connection. We cannot set the taskbar top of all the Windows in Windows 7.
Now we cannot use close or minimize a particular group of combined Window using
Ctrl +Click
to close, cascade, tile or minimize is not possible in Windows 7.
Windows Movie Maker, Windows Photo gallery, Windows Mail and Calendar
are removed from Windows 7 except Photo Viewer which is include in Windows 7 to view the Photo and if the movie maker file format are supported by other application then that can used and the plug-ins are installed in Windows 7 and are not exposed.
Windows 7 Status bar or Details pane will not show the size of the folder when no files are selected in a folder in Windows Explorer. Size of the selected items will not be shown in the Windows Explorer status bar and the size will be shown in details pane which is above the status bar. If more than 15 files are selected in a folder then the size of the selected items will not be visible by default, you need to click "Show More details" each time to see the complete details of the selected items in a folder.
Classic start menu and advanced search
cannot be seen in Windows 7
Power Plan
shows only 2 options in Windows 7.
High performance
power plan is hidden in Control Panel by default.
AutoPlay
will support only on CD and DVD which is a good for the security purpose and the latest patch for the previous OS also changed the AutoPlay like Windows 7. Check the KB971029 to more information about Autoplay
Removable Storage Manager (RSM)
is removed from Windows 7. Direct support to Tape device is not supported in Windows 7, so if you taken a backup in other version of Windows and you cannot restore the backup in Windows 7 as RSM is removed from Windows 7
Net print
command is used to list the jobs in a shared queue, Status of each job on the queue. Net print command is not supported in Windows 7. Some of this task can be performed by using Windows
PowerShell
and WMI.
Indexing services is provided in Windows 7 to support backward compatibility and it is not installed in Windows 7 by default.
Meeting Space
is removed from Windows 7 and you can use Office Communicator Server 2007, Live Meeting and Microsoft SharedView can be used
Quick Launch Toolbar
is not supported in Windows 7, as the Taskbar pin will create a shortcut in Taskbar, so you can use this functionality instead of Quick Launch Toolbar in Windows 7
Remote Desktop Connection Client 7
is not supported in Windows 7 to connect Windows 2000 Server Terminals.
Shared folders in Windows 7 will not be displayed with share overlay icon, Sharing information will be shown in the
Details pane
of Windows Explorer and Details pane will display all the other information related to sharing of the Folder
Windows 7 will not support Windows NT server 4.0 domains to join in Windows 7.
When the taskbar items are combined and showing the numerical numbers for the combined is removed from Windows 7
Microsoft Agent 2.0
enabled software's will not work in Windows 7 , however there are hot fixes available for Microsoft Agent 2.0

Some the Functionalities that are removed from Windows 7 is having work around and some of them are completely removed to improve the performance of the system and some of them are based on the customer feedback.
