To remove the old entries from startup screen
Many of us would have installed more than one OS in our system for multiple purposes. Sometimes you may uninstalled any one of your OS and after removing one of the OS, you may find that the removed OS still appears in the startup screen whenever you startup your system and it will wait for you to respond as to which OS to boot with.
To improve the booting performance of system we need to delete the removed operating system from the booting file. Here are the steps which makes the deleted OS not to appear in startup screen.
Step1: Click Windows
Start
button and type
msconfig
in the search box as displayed in the below picture.
System configuration
dialog box will appear.
Step2: Select
Boot
tab. Under
Boot
tab you can see the installed operating systems in your PC. Due to some reasons this Boot tab is not updated with the available OS in your system and in that case you may
select the removed OS
but appearing in the startup screen. Select the removed OS and click the
Delete
button to remove the OS from the Boot file.
Then
check the box
against
Make all boot settings permanent
and click
Apply
and
Ok
button.
Note: since I have installed one OS in my system, you can see only one OS here and you can't delete the default OS available. So the delete button is not enabled
.
After clicking the Ok button you will see another dialog box asking for final confirmation for the changes made then Click
Yes
and after this another Window will pop up asking you to restart your system for the changes to get reflected when you start up your system next time.
