This articles describes how to stop automatic installation of device drivers when you plug in the device in Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

How to stop from installing the drivers automatically in Windows 7

Windows 7 operating system will install the device drivers automatically when you plug-in the external device like USB Flash drive. Some people would like the drivers to be installed automatically without prompting anything and some may not prefer for automatic installation of drivers.

People who do not wish to happen it automatically may follow the below points;

1. Click the Windows startup button and Right click on Computer-> and select Properties will open the Control Panel home.

2.Select Advanced system settings option in the left pane, by clicking it System properties dialog box will appear.

3.Under Hardware tab select Device Installation Settings button.

4.In Device Installation Settings dialog box Click on option No, let me choose what to do and finally click on Ok to stop Windows 7 from installing the drivers automatically.

It is also applicable to Windows Vista
