Microsoft Security Essentials beta: features and enhancements

This article explains the security features and enhancements in the Microsoft Security Essentials bet version which is released in July 2010


Microsoft released its first Microsoft Security Essentials in September 2009 which is free and it includes real-time protection against malware, spyware, rootkits, viruses and Trojans. Microsoft Security Essentials is available for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. Security Essentials should not be installed along with other security software's. SE is a simple free product from Microsoft.

Within a year of Microsoft Security Essentials first version release, now Microsoft released Security Essentials beta version for download.

In order to download the beta it requires registration or you can use the windows live account to download the beta software.

What is new in Microsoft Security Essentials Beta


Some of the new features in Microsoft Security Essentials Beta are
  • Windows Firewall is integrated with Microsoft Security Essentials. During the installation of the beta software it will ask you to turn on or turn off the Windows Firewall.

  • Security Essentials beta include integration with Internet Explorer to identify the web based threats that will help us to identify the web threat at the earliest.

  • Anti-malware engine is enhanced in the beta version for the enhanced performance, better cleanup and optimized detection of the threats

  • Network Inspection System is included in Microsoft Security Essentials to protect against network attack which uses Windows Filtering Platform (WPF). It is not supported in Windows XP as it requires WPF.

    Beta version is only available to customers in US, Israel, China and Brazil.

    Separate version available for 32 and 64 bit versions.
