Understanding how antivirus works

In this resource I will explain How an antivirus works.

What are antivirus?

Antivirus is a software designed to scan and fix computer viruses. There are many anti viruses available both in free version as well as premium packs.

How antivirus works?

Virus Directory
It simply includes the list of viruses defined in the antivirus database. It means that these viruses are only detected by the antivirus. If a virus is not present in the Virus Directory it will not be detected by the anivirus. This is also the reason for antiviruses requiring regular updates.

Suspicious Behaviour
In this case any software which writes an executable file is reffered as a virus by the antivirus software. This method provides the advantage of being effective against new viruses as well.But the disadvantage of this method is that sometimes it recognizes other softwares or programs as viruses too which can be irritating for the computer user.
