This article explains how to enable or disable or change the password of the administrator account using administrator command prompt in Windows 7
How to control Administrator account in Windows 7
Administrator is the powerful user and it has all the right to add or modify and delete all the settings in a computer. In a networked computer environment all the settings are handled in the centralized server and the client machines that are connected to the domain or workgroup server will have the same settings as server which is set by administrator, in such type of environment admin account will be handled by certain users who will be the known as System administrator.
Built in administrator account can be disabled or enabled by using net user command. This can be done by using another administrator account. Mostly in a network environment the default admin account will be disabled to avoid hacking or other activities.
Windows 7 has an easy way to enable or disable the administrator account by using the Windows command prompt.
To enable or disable the administrator account can be done using the
Local Security Policy Editor
. By using command prompt is easier than using
Local Security Policy Editor
wizard.
How to open command prompt as administrator in Windows 7
There are various ways to run a command prompt in Windows 7 as administrator; we will see some of the ways.
Method 1
Run the command prompt as Administrator account by typing the
cmd
in the search bar of the Windows startup menu and then instead of pressing enter key press
CTRL + SHIFT +ENTER
will open the command prompt as the administrator command prompt.
Method 2
Run the command prompt as Administrator account by typing the
cmd
in the search bar of the Windows startup menu and then right click the mouse button and select "Run as Administrator" will open the command prompt as the administrator command prompt.
Method 3
Run the command prompt as the admin by typing the
cmd
in the search bar of the Windows startup menu, then right click the mouse button, click
properties
, then select the
Compatibility
tab,then in
Privilege Level
select
Run this program as Administrator
and click
OK
. It will always open the command prompt as the administrator command prompt.
Note: In both the cases if you are not in administrator account you need to enter the Administrator account user name and password to open the command prompt as Administrator, without admin account credentials you cannot run the command prompt as administrator.
To see all the accounts in the system just type
net user
To disable the administrator account in Windows 7 type the below command in the command prompt
net user adminausername /active:no
To enable the administrator account in Windows 7 type the below command in the
command prompt
net user adminausername /active:yes
To change the administrator password just type the below command to change the password
net user adminausername adminpassword
