This article explains what are the features that are not available in Windows 7 starter in comparison to Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate

Windows 7 Starter edition


Windows 7 released in different versions for the users benefit. Home user, beginners or some may want to only basic features to work with Windows 7, by keeping that in mind Windows 7 given a very basic version in Windows know as Windows 7 starter edition. It is not a complete OS compared to other versions of Windows 7 like Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate.

Windows 7 starter edition will used to do basic tasks such as browsing the internet, checking emails and other small work can be done in Windows 7 starter.

Features that missing in Windows 7 starter edition


Aero glass is not included in Windows 7 starter which may decrease the performance of the system with the glowing effects. Taskbar preview and aero peek is also missing in Windows 7 starter.

Windows 7 starter version will not support more than one monitor. You can use the external monitor but it is limited to one monitor we cannot extent the monitor.

Windows 7 is not having the XP mode, so you cannot run the older programs like XP compatible programs in Windows 7, some of the them may be supported but most of the older programs cannot run in Windows 7.

Media center is not part of Windows 7. You cannot watch Internet TV on your PC, which requires TV tuner card.

Windows 7 doesn't support remote media streaming for the video and music.

No DVD support means you cannot watch DVD movies and also you can't plug-in external drive in Windows 7 starter, instead of buying a Windows 7 starter you can buy a Windows Home Premium.
