I will explain to you that what is the features of the optical fiber and why this cable is used for networking?
The optical fiber cables is the best transmission medium used for the transfer of the data as this cables differs from the metallic cables such as coaxial cables and twisted pair cables in the sense that it carries transmitted information in form of fluctuating beam of the light in a glass fiber instead oaf an electrical signal on a wire.
They can achieve transmission rates of hundreds of megabits per second because of the wider bandwidth of light waves. Light waves are immune to electromagnetic interference and cross talk.
These cables are extremely useful for the transmission of the lower bit rate signals in electrically noisy environments as it is difficult to tapped these signals physically due to which it is used in the places where security is required.
It consists of the single glass fiber for each signal to be transmitted. These fibers are placed in a protective coating which shields the fiber from external light source.
An optical transmitter and the optical receiver are used at ends. The transmitter uses light emitting diode or laser diode to perform conversion operation.
The receiver uses alight sensitive photo diode or photo transistor to convert light signals back to the electrical signals, as the light propagates along the optical fiber core which depends on the width and the nature of material used for its construction.
