This article explains How to resolve the Windows Host Process error in Windows OS most commonly in Windows XP with SP2 with various methods

Generic Host Error in Windows

Generic Host error is one of the common errors in Windows System. Windows XP is having this issue because of the virus or some other program that is stopping the host process. It is common in Windows Operating System because of the Virus, adware or spyware. Always install the Adware antivirus software to protect your system.

Here are the solutions for the issue.

Method 1

  • Go to Windows Startup and open the run prompt(or Windows Key + R to open the Run prompt). Type regedit in run to open the registry and then press enter.

  • Now go to the below key in registry and select using mouse

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\NetBT\Parameters

Once you selected the above key then right side you will see a value named "TransportBindName", delete the previous value and leave it as empty.

  • Once that is completed, now go to the below key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE

On the right side of the window, you will find a key named "EnableDCOM" open and modify it from Y to N.

  • Method 2

If the issue is not resolved then try to download the security patch from Microsoft and install it

Once the above fix is installed then install your antivirus software like spybot to avoid it in future.

    Method 3

Install service pack 3 (SP3) for XP will resolve this issue, probably it is a bug in XP SP2. Apart from this always use Antivirus program to protect your PC. One Antivirus program is to protect your system from antivirus, spyware, adware and other unwanted programs. Use Security Essentials from Microsoft it is Windows operating system and install Spybot.

    Method 4

Do a clean install, format the system and reparation the system and then install Windows OS. If you still want to use XP then install Windows XP with service pack 3 and then some antivirus software to protect the system.
Hope this will resolve the Generic Host error in Windows XP.

    Method 5
