What is the Router?
Router is an expensive piece of hardware which act as the interface between the two or more devices and the essential hardware piece used for connecting a customer LAN to the internet WAN. It is basically provides a route between two or more networks.
It consists of smart algorithms whose function is to decide the shortest route between two or more computers such that the data transmit from one location to the other in a convenient manner with very much efficiency.
It works on the two interfaces-
* One is to connect the LAN to an Ethernet port.
* Other is to connect serial interface to connect it to the WAN.
How to install the Routers?
Firstly, go the market and select the cost effective router such that it has high transfer rate according to your network. Preference.
Connect the router properly to the various computers connected with the network using the cables or the other transmission media.
Run Setup for the router and then configure the settings of the router according to you and check whether data transmission is taking place or not?
How to troubleshoot the Router?
In case you are having any kind of problem with your router then,
Follow the required steps to troubleshoot the router-
* Check the diagnostic lights/LEDs of the router.
The LDE are normally present at the router interface. If green LED of each interface is lighted, It means that the router is working and if it is not only the router is out of work.
* Check all the cables and ensure that they are connected properly. Most of the router problems occur due to loose connections or cable problems.
* Ping the network and run the ping test and ensure that network connections are pinging.
* Check the configuration of router and its IP address. Ensure that they are valid.
* Check the authentication methods match. Use PP authentication, PAP authentication or CHAP authentication.
* Finally check the routing and matching of Routing and Routing protocols or the algorithm.
