Fix hard disk errors of your windows 7 computer with chkdsk

chkdsk is a tool which is available in windows 7 which is similar to scandisk in earlier operating systems. This tool is used for scanning your hard disk and fix the errors.

Chkdsk is used for checking errors related to bad sectors, lost clusters. If you find bad sectors in your hard drive, it is an indication that the hard disk will be going bad. Let us see how we can use chkdsk to fix hard disk problems.

  • Click on Start -> Computer. This will list the hard drives that are available in your windows 7 computer for scanning.

  • Now right click on the drive letter that you want to scan for errors and select Properties

  • Now click on the 'Tools' tab and click the button 'Check Now' under error-checking section.

  • You will see two options. One option is 'Automatically fix file system errors' and other is 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors'. You can check the "Automatically fix file system errors". You can select other option if you have problems with your hard drive. So choose the option you want and then click on 'start'.
