Microsoft's leaked slides few weeks back, gave insights about what can we see in Windows 8. If the leaked documents are to be believed, we will be seeing Windows 8 using high technology like proximity sensors and face detection.
Few weeks back Microsoft's slides were leaked on internet containing plans and goals for Windows 8. Many of them got the opportunity to sneak on them and get a glimpse of possible Windows 8. Screenshots of these slides uploaded at Microsoft kitchen blog were stamped with the watermark "Microsoft Confidential — released to Derek.Goode@hp.com."
Windows 8 may probably have sensor technology to make user interaction more comfortable. The leaked documents contained slides of how Microsoft will be using proximity sensors in Windows 8.
This new feature in Windows 8 will be called
My PC Knows Me
. Windows will be using a connected camera to identify the user and along with proximity sensor, act depending on the user's location in the room. Using this new feature, windows will automatically change to sleep mode when the user moves away and will automatically resume from sleep and login once it identifies you.
Windows 8 will also be integrating facial recognition for login for users. Once you feed your face into the system, all you have to do is sit in front of the webcam and let windows authenticate you and log-in. Facial recognition will also be used to switch PC users quickly.
Key Features
• Proximity detection and facial detection
• Rapid "on"
• User authentication and log-in using face detection
• Fast and easy user switching
• Desktop lock using face detection and proximity detection
• Fast switch to sleep mode
Other features that were discussed in the slides were fast startup which will be a combination of Logoff+Hibernate, Push button reset which will reinstall windows keeping all the files and settings safe without having to backup, IE 9 and introduction to 'Windows Store'.
