What to do if a DVD drive is not recognized by windows 7


Many of you might have faced this kind of problem. You might have upgraded to windows 7 from old Windows XP or windows vista. After upgradation, some DVD drives are not recognized by windows 7. But the DVD drive is listed in the device manager with a yellow exclamation mark indicating that there is a problem with digital signature.

to fix this kind of problem of DVD drives not being recognized by Windows 7, follow the steps given below:

  • First press Windows button + R, and type 'regedit' and press Enter button.
  • Now open the Registry Key given below.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

  • Once you open that key, right click on UpperFilters in the right pane, and click 'Delete'
  • Now you should click 'yes' to confirum the removal of UpperFilters registry entry
  • Similarly remove the LowerFilters entry
  • Now exit registry editor and restart your computer


  • This would definitely solve your problem of DVD drive being not recognized in Windows 7 computer.
