This resource will provide you information on the drawbacks that are available in the hibernation feature of the windows.

Drawbacks of the Hibernate feature in windows

The hibernation feature was provided by the Microsoft for the versions of the windows. This feature helps in suspending to disk which aims to save the available system state to an undocumented file that is called as the hiberfil.sys. This particular file saves all the physical memory saved by the operating system and it restores the physical memory next time when the computer is switched on. Hibernation is a best way to save the physical memory and load it on the next start up.

This particular hibernation feature even though it is very reliable to the users, it also has some of the drawbacks. Here are some of the drawbacks of the hibernation feature of the windows.

• The hibernation feature occupies the space in the hard disk. In the windows XP if the hibernation feature is disabled then there are more possibility to save more disk space.

• In the hibernation the system has to be shut down at least once in a day or at frequent interval. The hibernation option cannot be used throughout.

• In windows when you are using a program and you are closing it, they do not close properly and they use the resources. There will be memory leaks formed which uses up the resources. If you go for the hibernation and if you use it without shutting down, then your system will be overloaded with the memory leaks. The resources that are used will be cleared only when your system is shut down.

• The continuous working of the system with hibernation and without the proper shut down will definitely make the system run slow.

• Without the proper shut down the life span of the system will be in danger.

• Sometimes when the hibernation of the system is not proper then there is a possibility for the creation of the cluster files in the hard disk. This cluster files have to be removed externally inside the hard disk.

Even though there are some common draw backs for hibernation, it is proved to be good in the power consumption phenomenon in the laptops and the desktop systems. People use the hibernation option in order to save the power in the laptops.
