This article talks about the differences between a 32 Bit vs 64 Bit processor and advantage of using a 64 bit processor

32 bit vs 64 bit processor

64 bit processor is having more computing numerical value than the 32 bit machine. Typically Data Transfer between computer memory (RAM) and processor is doubled when using the 64 bit machines than 32 bit machine and the calculating speed of the 64 bit processor is 2 times faster than the 32 bit processor.

64 bit machine need more RAM compared to 32 bit processor. A 64 bit machine requires at least 4 GB of RAM to take full advantage of the capabilities offered by a 64-bit processor.

Home users cannot see the difference between a 64 bit processor and 32 bit processor because they will use only smaller range of calculations. 64 bit processor will be useful for research organizations for complex calculations, Geologist and Geophysicist can use it to processes their geological data which requires high computing power, complex software application like finding a short route algorithm or complex air traffic control requires more computing power to calculate more accurate information.

If the software programs are designed to support 64 bit processor then it cannot be used in 32 bit processor. Hardware drivers like printer driver, video and audio driver that is designed for 32 bit processor cannot be installed on 64 bit processor and vice versa.
