How to create restore point and use System Restore.

System Restore in Windows:

Have you been a victim of unexpected system shutdown lately? Has your system hanged and you have lost all the important details that you were editing? Have you started preparing a presentation and lost everything due to the unexpected power outage.

The answer for any one of these questions from most of the people using computer would be YES.

Many of the users are not aware that they have a sanjeevani that could bring them out from this situation. Do not be surprised ,it is a fact.

Windows provides a program that acts as a real life saver in all the above unfortunate situations. The program is known as SYSTEM RESTORE.

System Restore records all the important documents, settings, and preferences on the computer. In case any unexpected event occurs and all the computer files are damaged or inaccessible, System Restore can be used to restore our computer to the same state it was in before the data was lost due to the unexpected occurrence.

System Restore creates restore points daily and whenever you install device drivers, automatic updates, and some applications. But it's a good idea to get into the habit of creating a system checkpoint (called a restore point) when you're about to install new software or take any action you suspect might make your computer unstable. Then, if there's any conflict at all, you can restore your computer to the point just before you began the installation.

Below are the steps to be followed to create a restore point using system restore.

1) Click Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore.
2) System Restore window opens. Click on Create a restore point, and then click Next.
3) Enter a description of the restore point. Click on Create.
4) After a few seconds you will be displayed the date, time, and description of the new restore point.
5) Click Close.

You can just come back to the system restore window later and using the option Restore my computer to an earlier time you can restore the system to the restore point you have created or any other time.
