Changing the power plan in Windows 7 PC

The Windows 7 Operating System allows you to change the power plan of your system. The power plan determines the balance between the power usage and the performance. For example, in some devices like note books, it is desirable to select a power plan which minizes the usage of battery there by increasing the battery life rather than the performance.

Here is a procedure to change the Power plan in a Windows 7 PC:

  • Type in powercfg.cpl on the run dialog box (Press Windows Key + R to access this) and then press Enter key. Then you will see a the power options page that is loaded, you can select one of the pre-configured power plans. See the screen shot of power options page below.

Now you have to just click on the power plan that you wish to use and close the window. You can click on 'change plan settings' and then 'change advanced power settings' if you wish to customize the settings further. You can create your own power plan by clicking on 'create a power plan'.

If you are using mobile computers like laptops, it is important to view the advanced plan settings.
