The registry grows larger as you often install applications. There is also a chance that the registry gets cluttered with lot of junk files which slows down the computer.

Here are a few basic steps to fix these kind of problems on Windows Vista Computer and make it run faster.

  • First of all remove all the programs that you never use.
  • Please check the remaining applications for proper update and make sure they are compatible with windows vista. Even though some programs will appear to be running properly, they may be slowing down your computer.
  • If you are playing any games or use graphic intensive applications, your video card may be slowing your computer.


  • If you see that the applications like this are running slowly then do the following:

    * Check these programs for updates
    * You should also disable windows aero. Your computer will run much slower if you are running with graphics and also enable windows aero.

  • Now right click on the desktop and then choose Personalize. Now click on color and appearance and then in the next screen that opens up, click down the bottom on classic appearance properties for more color. You can disable aero there and select a different setting that does not eat up all the graphics memory.
  • One best way to fix the performance issues in Windows Vista is to run a registry scan. The registry scan will automatically detect registry errors which cause the slowing of the computer. There are many tools to scan the registry.
  • Once the registry errors are identified, these errors can be fixed in just few minutes and the computer will start running faster.
  • Now run a system scan. This will scan the registry for errors and also scan the hard disks for errors and scan for spyware, malware and trojans.
