Changes coming in Windows 7 SP1

Microsoft made several announcements about some new features and functionalities provided by Service Pack 1 (SP1) of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Service Pack 1 of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 is expected at the end of the year. Further announcements on the features provided by this service pack will be announced in the coming months.

Among the new features include:

Dynamic Memory

Dynamic memory is an improvement on Hyper-V R2 and enables companies to dynamically adjust the allocation of memory available to distribute virtual machines. It will become possible to add memory to a virtual machine without any downtime!

RemoteFX

RemoteFX is a novelty for the virtualization of desktops. This feature will deliver the most complete user experience offered by Windows 7 through virtual machines to users of the company. This feature will work with Windows Aero, watch videos in high definition, Silverlight or Flash animations, and 3D applications perform as if you were using a physical machine. This feature thus pushes the concept of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) that Microsoft calls through its new offering. At the same time, Microsoft and Citrix announced a collaboration to enable Citrix to integrate and use Microsoft RemoteFX through the following XenDesktop.
