How to use giveaways for promotion of a blog

Most of the new bloggers carve for visitors on their website. No doubt, good content on the blog certainly brings visitors but it takes some time for search engines to accept new blogs. Such bloggers can use giveaways to give initial exposure to their blogs.

Giveaways, in my opinion, is one of the oldest methods for blog promotion. Most of the bloggers organize giveaways at regular intervals on their blogs to quickly attract visitors. In addition to bringing more people, it also helps in increasing the reputation of the blog. In this post, I will cover many aspects of giveaways like how giveaways work, what to give in giveaways, how to organize a giveaway, what are the advantages of a giveaway and more.

What is a Giveaway?

In a giveaway, the visitors are given something for free. It can be a pen drive, a domain name, an iPod or anything else. The visitors need to do some small tasks like Liking the blog on Facebook, sharing the post, tweeting the post, subscribing to blog etc. Many bloggers organize giveaways to promote their blogs. The main motive of the blogger here is to promote the blog and get more readers or subscribers.

Why should I organize a giveaway?

This is a question that raises in the mind of many readers. Whenever we do something, we always ask why, especially if it involves some investment. Let's understand what a giveaway can give you in return with some examples.

Consider a blog getting 300 pageviews a day and it is organizing a giveaway of a .com domain name. A .com domain name costs around Rs 300 or less thus the investment done is Rs 300.

Now suppose that the giveaway runs for a month. In one month, the blog will get 300 x 30 = 9000 pageviews. Among these people, suppose 100 people participated in this giveaway. In this giveaway the participants where asked to share the post with their friends on Facebook and subscribe to your blog. If every participant had 100 friends on Facebook on an average with 100 participants, you will get 100 Facebook shares that amounts to exposure to 100 x 100 = 10,000 people. In addition, you got 100 subscribers to your blog too. Now lets see it in brief:

Investment: Rs 300
Return: 100 subscribes
Exposure to 10000 people

Nice explanation. I am new to this concept. Please tell me how do I start implementing 'Giveaways' for my blog? Is there any basic eligibility to pass? Have you successfully implemented it for your own blog?
