If you haven't heard about The Crew yet, either you are not that much into games or you are totally ignorant if you are a hardcore gamer. The gaming world has been clamoring for this game ever since it has been announced. I still remember the day when this game was showcased all of a sudden and everyone was like, 'What the hell did I just watch? It's a CGI trailer? It just looks too good to be true!'.
I know the feeling as I was one of the people who were in awe at that time. I couldn't believe that a game like that can be developed until they showcased some in game racing footage. Only then I believed that it's really happening. They are going for the kill. That's all. I am pretty sure that this game will be a benchmark for other racing games to come as this is going to set the mark so high that it's going to give other racing games a run for their money no matter how good they have been in the past.
It seems that Ubisoft's formula of creating a living breathing online world is really working. For one, they curb piracy as there is just no way you can play this game without paying for it. How's that for a shocker hmmm? Pirating this game would be a hell of a task because you will have to crack their servers which, not to mention, is nearly impossible. Even if someone managed to do that, the pirated game will not even be fun to play at all. Most of the services will be available only to them who'll pay for the game. So there you go! So let's cut to the chase and talk more about some of the features of the game -
It's open world
When I was playing the Crew beta, it felt aesthetically open world, a world where I could break boundaries. I really liked the fact that they were promoting the idea of being creative in the game. For example, you are heading down a straight well laid path in front of you, but at the same time, there are multiple other hidden shortcuts you can take to reach the destination beforehand. But the onus is upon you to find those shortcuts. They are not going to treat you like a kid and hint you as to where to go. Remember, they are making a game for adults this time around leaving the old habit of making those cartoonish games for kids behind.
It's not a Single player game
Here is what might as well be a deal-breaker for many gamers around the world, especially those who are Indians as we don't have access to super-fast internet yet. The thing is, this game can't be played offline. Yes, you heard it right. If you want to play it, you'll have to be connected to internet all the time. In other words, it's a MMO, Massively Multiplayer Online, a type of game where thousands of players come together and form groups to play with or against each other. How about that for awesomeness? So if you are into that thing, you are going to have a lot of fun playing this game with other players competing against each other, breaking each other's records, chasing a thug with your friend's help or better yet trying to eliminate a cop. It definitely sounds like a lot of dram and fun on paper, but you are going to believe it when you play it for yourself. Apparently, it's happening!
You are free to do whatever you want
As I stated above, The Crew spans across all of the Chicago City. And if you don't know already, Chicago is a humongous plays. It's a behemoth, a beast city where people walk like bees everywhere. So as you can imagine, driving recklessly in that busy town while trying not to hurt pedestrians is going to be a lot harder than it seems. You might be under the habit of playing a racing game on isolated tracks where there is no one else except some other racing cars competing against. Well, it surely was fun mate, but the times have changed now and with that, the way the develop games have also changed. It's open, it's huge and you are there to do whatever you want. The only thing you can't do, however, is getting out of the car. No, it's not possible unfortunately.
Contrary to what a lot of people are presuming, this game is not going to be delayed at all. In fact, it's ready to be launched right now. All they are doing is just sprucing it up a little more and giving it some more polish and shine to iron out as many bugs as possible before launch. The fact of the matter is this, any online game like The Crew will have to go hand in hand with rocky launches. It's almost a custom now which we have come to accept. So if you are planning to pick this game up on the launch date, you should know for a fact that this is not going to work at that date. The Crew launches sometime this October. There is no firm release date yet, but they have reassured people that it's not going be pushed back to 2015 like other games have been following. So hold your horses' people.
