Can you read a USB flash drive from an Android phone?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) with Android 2.1 and i'm wondering if it can read a USB flash drive. It will be really useful to copy files across USB drives so you don't have to carry laptops around.

I think if there is a cable/converter to plugin a USB into the phone and there is an app to read the connected USB drive, I don't see why it can't be done.

The problem is do the cable and app exist?

    Dear friend,
My friend told that his s2 supports USB pendrive, USB keyboard and USB mouse. I think s also supports this facilities. But I think need a connector.

Sulthan you are wrong galaxy s does not officially supports USB device working on it. And I have searched a lot in the internet about this newly thread but I could not find any application or software in the app market or some some sites. Finally I came to know more on this thread and some friends suggest me to root the phone and then you can do it(caution rooting voids your manufacture warranty) so I get rid from that topic. If you are willing to do that all you have to do is that refer this article and this will give you some idea.

SULTHAN S2 has an in-built USB port in it. That's why it supports the USB. But samsung s doesn't has such a feature. Firoz's idea about the connector cable and that software was good, but the problem is that it doesn't exist. Anyway thanks for all your informations.

You are right samsung s2 has an inbuild usb mode and officially it will work. But considering galaxy s it will not work because the device does not officialy approved it.

    Dear fayaz,
There is no USB port in S II. Only micro-USB port is available. To connect USB devices you need another connector. Their is no other way.

    Hi Firoz,
I just want to share my thoughts over here. In samsung family galaxy note 800 supports USB drive connecting directly without any help of connector in it. I dint here anywhere that galaxy s supporting USB drive.
