What is the difference between an App and a Widget?

Date: 06 Feb 2013   Group: Computers & Smart Devices    Category: Smartphones

Hi friends,

I am using some Android devices. I have specific questions on Android. What is an App and What is a Widget? What is the difference between both? Does Widgets take more RAM memory and battery power while in use? How few applications in Android reappear even after removing them from the device?

Please answer the above questions. Thanks in advance.

It is very simple to differentiate between them. Widget is a device that is very useful for a particular job and runs continuously performing that job. For example clock, calendar, whether forecast etc. It is quite obvious that because the widgets run continuously they consume your CPU memory and battery. You need not to click on the widgets to run them.

On the other hand, an app is a software programme that runs on mobile devices or computers and which are usually a third party programmes. A simple example is of the 'WordWeb', which is available as an iPhone app. An app will run only when you want it to run and till then it won't consume your CPU memory and the battery.

Hi Mam,
It is very simple. Widgets are like Analog clock, calender, sim status, google search, google+, music, play store, power control, youtube are some of the Android Widgets. These runs continuously in the Android mobile phones. It helps to view and use frequently in the mobile phones. Because it comes with the mobile phones itself.

But Apps are different than widgets. Apps are the programming applications which needs to download from your mobile and use it. Various programmers will work in a single app to publish it successfully.

Widgets are self running applications. For example live wall paper in your Android device.
