Display - S8 Plus is made up of premium materials – a solid metal frame covered back and front with Gorilla Glass 5 while the footprint is about the same as the S7 Edge. The screen itself is much taller, tiny bezels on the top and bottom allow the screen to take up almost the entire front surface. It's also IP 68 certified for water and dust resistance. Aside from this, it's just a beautiful phone to look at. The sloping edges of the curved glass add a sense of elegance. Let's talk about the curved screen for a minute. Samsung calls it the Infinity display and it's 6.2 inches diagonally. The display is absolutely gorgeous, content on the phone spills over the sides of the curved glass and also the added vertical space makes a smooth mirrored surface seem massive while curved screens are new. The Galaxy S8 Plus brings it to the next level. Tests confirm that the display panel is one of the vibrant ones with great contrast and legibility. The size of the S8 Plus screen has a drawback though. There's an unusual aspect ratio because of its height that means that most videos are either presented with bars on the sides or are stretched or cropped to fit with the bars in place the functional screen size for video is about the same as the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Specifications - The good things in S8 Plus you'll find are the slot for the SIM card and the microSD. This time around the fingerprint reader is on the back next to the camera and the setup is awkward when hunting for the reader you can easily smudge your lens but you get alternative authentication methods – such as iris recognition and face recognition. Samsung has placed a lot of focus on big speeds - it's new virtual assistant. You can summon Bixby with a dedicated hardware button on the left. You have a USB C port on the bottom and next to that the single speaker. It's quieter than many phones. You really wish if it had stereo speakers. Luckily we have a 3.5mm jack and high-quality AKG headphones that come bundled with the S8 Plus. The phone runs on Samsung UX on top of Android 7.0 nougat. The UI is simple and easy to use, Now always on display is located on the lock screen and provides notifications, a clock, a calendar and a home button. The app drawer is available with a single swipe down on the home screen or you can have all your apps available like on iOS. The notification shade is hard to reach one-handed on this tall screen. In multi-window mode, the windows are completely resizable unlike some competing phones like the LG G6 and the Google Pixel. S8 Edge panels are back from the S7 but new to the S8 series is a smart select function. It crops in screenshots, a portion of the screen which can be pinned or used for text recognition. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has 64-gigabytes of storage and it's expandable.

Software & Battery - In some markets, the S8 Plus will come with a Samsung Exynos 8895 chipset. In others like the US and China, it will ship with a Snapdragon 835 chipset. Both of these chips are the first on the scene with the next gen 10-nanometre process and should have just about the same performance. The battery on the S8 Plus is 3500mah in capacity. Samsung says it's made this battery safety test much more intensive so hopefully, the issues of the Note 7 are behind us. The Galaxy S8 Plus has defaulted depth of fast charging and is also able to charge wirelessly.

Camera - You get a 12-megapixel main shooter with a 1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization. This is basically the same setup of the S7. Samsung was able to improve its performance a bit with a new feature. We call it multi-shot stack and we've seen something like this before in the Google Pixel. Here the camera takes several shots rapidly and combines them to make a sharp or final image. The difference in quality is noticeable, especially in low light. About the front-facing camera, it's an 8-megapixels and a big improvement over last year. It can now use autofocus, previously the focus is at a fixed distance and also has a feature called the Virtual shot. It's like an interactive selfie that moves as you tilt the screen. The S8 Plus is basically the same camera interface with the update of S7. One difference though is a bundle of new overlays for your photos. The main camera can shoot in 4k at 30 frames per second. There's both optical image stabilization as well as digital stabilization but like in other phones we've seen using both in 4k mode leads to a wobbling effect.

Samsung S8 Plus is the phone that comes under the too big phone. The 6.2 inch device may not be suitable for all. Here are some of the specifications are

    The Look and Feel
The phone is a perfect blend of bigger size and comfortable handling. The Galaxy S8 has become more curvy this time. The phone looks completely glass. There is a metal frame, but it is hardly noticeable. However, it may not be quite comfortable for handling. The phone is quite slippery. The IP68 Water resistance properties have made a comeback once again.

    Display
Galaxy S8 Plus has a screen size of 6.2 inches. The super AMOLED quality is just awesome as has been the case with almost all Samsung smartphones. The resolution reads 1440 x 2960 WQHD and the pixel density is 529 ppi. The display quality is quite excellent. Be it the crispness of the text and videos, sunlight legibility and viewing angles - you can expect the highest quality as has always found on a Samsung devices before. Then there is the EDGE display. You now have the option of customising your EDGE display features. You can set it up quite easily.

    The insides
As you would expect, Galaxy S8 Plus is powered by the in house Exynoss processor. The Octacore processor clocking at 2.35 GHz should be the best performer. Graphics are taken care of by Mali-G71 MP20 GPU. While many smartphones even in the medium budget have been coming up with 4 to 6 GB RAM, Samsung has settled with 4 GB RAM on its Galaxy S8 Plus. The LPDDR4X RAM should offer you an excellent performance. The internal storage is 64 GB. The lack of a higher memory variant such as 128 GB may be something power users will resent. But, yes - there is a microSD card support to expand the storage capacity by another 256 GB. The recent reports have indicated that a 128 GB version will be available with 6 GB RAM soon.

    Camera
Samsung does not believe in hiking the Megapixel count for better camera functionality. It rather focusses on the pixel size. The same is evident from the 12 MP sensor used on Galaxy S8 Plus. The pixel size has been upped to f/1.7. The Dual Pixel Phase Detection Auto Focus ensures better and faster focus. This helps in avoiding blurring or overexposure. The camera app is just great as it has been all along. There are enough modes and filters available. The PRO feature can be an added advantage. If you are a selfie lover, you are blessed with a 8 MP front camera.

    Software
The phone runs on Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box. The TouchWiz customisation has been quite lean these days. In fact, the name TouchWiz has ceased to exist now. The interface is now referred to as Samsung Experience. You can swipe down on any screen to get the search box and the complete app drawer. The performance leaves nothing much desired. Everything is perfectly in place. Samsung has come up with its own Bixby personal assistant. It has not been launched as yet in its entirety, but S8 Plus has support for it. Google Assistant continues to have its presence.

    Battery and other features
The S8 Plus comes with a 3500 mAh battery capacity. It should offer you over ten hours of movie play back. The advanced battery saving features let you squeeze in as much power as you would want to in cases of emergencies. The phone supports faster charging with USB Type C port.
The phone does pack in all the necessary features like Bluetooth, WiFi and other essential services.

    Availability and Pricing
The phone is available at select online stores and also for offline purchase. You can get it for Rs. 56999.
