First of all, let me clarify that Microsoft has stopped using Nokia brand name for its Lumia series ofsmartphones. The phone in question is called Lumia 950XL. Here we go with the specifications in a nutshell.
Design and display
The design remains similar to the smaller variant of the device, the Lumia 950. It is made of polycarbonate. The phone carries a USB-C port at the bottom. The Lumia 950XL comes with a 5.7 inch screen that has AMOLED display. The resolution of the display reads 1600x1440. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 4. The pixel density measures 518 ppi.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octacore processor. The 64 bit processor is indeed good with performance. It comes with a 32 GB internal storage that can be expanded to as high as 2TB ( please note that such huge memory expansion options are currently available, but crux of the matter is that the phone supports it when it comes). The phone has been stated to have a 3 GB RAM.
It indeed is a Windows 10 phone. Lookwise, there isn't much of a change, but yes – there are many under the hood improvements. The phone comes with a few pre-installed apps. Some of them are Audible, Cleartrip, Facebook, Jet Airways, Lumia Creative Studio, Microsoft Office suite, Ola and Zomato. The software now has support for Windows Hello which is an Iris recognition software from Windows. There is another good feature called Continnum. the feature lets you expand your phone to a monitor or TV. But if you want to use the feature, you will need to invest on extra hardware like Microsoft's Display Dock.
The edge browser is quite faster. There is Groove music player as the default music app.
That's where the phone really excels. You get a 20 MP rear camera with PureView technology. It incorporates Zeiss optics. The camera has 4K recording capability. The camera has a Triple LED flash and Optical Image Stabilisation. At the front, you have a 5 MP front snapper with wide aperture. The front camera is capable of HD video recording at 1080p.
Battery and other features
The Lumia 950XL is powered by a 3340 mAh battery. It has been rated by Microsoft to offer you a 75 hours of 3G talktime, 25 hours of internet browsing and 11 hours of video playback. Video loop tests by review sites have claimed a backup of 12 hours. The phone supports quick charging with which you can charge your phone from zero to 45% in just under 30 minutes. It does support regular connectivity options such as WiFi, Bluetooth ( version 4.1), FM radio and GPS. It also has support for USB OTG, the most demanded feature these days.
Price and availability
The phone can be bought at Rs. 49399 on Amazon India. You can also buy the phone from Reliance Digital stores and Microsoft Priority sellers.
