There are number of Telecom Networks and services providers in India like Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, Reliance, Uninore, Tata Docomo, Videocon, Aircel etc. When it comes to roaming, they all charge higher then any normal tariff and plans. But the bad of all, They simply disable all the offers, tariff and schemes which is annoying sometimes. We all roam across the country many times, Do you know any network which offers Free roaming? Can you explain in details?

Our Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal has announced that the Indian Government is trying to start the free National roaming service before October, 2013, which is a very good news for people who often travel to different states in India. This means that they will not have to pay any extra charges and get rid of different sim cards for different circles.

No, till date there are no service providers who offer free roaming. As said by Ankit free roaming will be available to us on or before October of current year. So, then onward, one can go to any state without paying any extra charge for mobile communications.

The government could not keep up its promise to introduce free roaming scheme which was scheduled to be launched from March 2013 as announced by the Union Minister for Communications, Mr Kapil Sibal. Now the minister has announced that the free roaming scheme will be implemented sometime in October 2013 or may be even little before October.

Even when the government could not fulfil its promise, Airtel took an initiative and announced the free roaming scheme in the five states of Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, Uttarakhand and West Bengal (Except- Kolkata) effective from yesterday. A nominal recharge tarrif of Rs.21 has been announced by Airtel for this purpose. This recharge will allow the user for free roaming for a month in the five states mentioned above and the users can receive the free incoming calls. The service may not be called absolutely free since you have to get a recharge for Rs.21. But something is always better than nothing. So, we can hope that other telecom companies may also start such service to remain in competition. This will rightly pave the way for a free roaming service throughout India gradually.

At the present there is no roaming offered free by any network. Yes, you can get your roaming free by the special recharge voucher. But in the first week of March 2013 our government Union Minister for Communications, Mr Kapil Sibal announced that in India, roaming will be free by every network.

I don't feel any telecom services providing free roaming service for the members. Reliance announced few months before that they are providing free roaming charges for the users across India. That was big news. But still there is no other confirmation about this issue. No one knows whether this scheme came officially or not by the Reliance team. May be it is still in progress. But one thing about this Reliance, there was no any other additional charges for the customers when they are in roaming. This is a good news when compared with other telecom networks.

So far no free roaming for mobile phones from any service provider but you have to pay nominal charges for 30 days, 60 days and 180 days accordingly. Recharge amount vary based on the circle and based on the service provider. You can say this service is still better than any other offer at the moment for roaming. Sad news is that, this facility is not utilizing by even educated fellows and losing out their money many times upon roaming.

I can suggest mobile user who roams shall use this facility prior to travel or Service provider shall SMS on this facility and recharge amount info upon roaming by their customer to avoid roaming charges.

There are no any mobile services operators that provide free roaming in India. But few operator may offer free roaming only on their network. I am not sure about it but Idea to Idea roaming is free in India. For that when we are in roaming we have to contact with customer care and ask for free roaming. They suggest some settings which can allow us free roaming. I use this trick whenever I visit Mumbai. Because rest of Maharashtra and Mumbai are the two different zones. Other mobile operators may also offer such schemes and we have to ask them about it. This trick only work for prepaid customers and for postpaid we can select any roaming plan to save money.
Anyhow good news is that said "India will be roaming free after October 2013". Really its great news for all Indian.

    with best regards

So far roaming charges are applicable in all service providers. As announced by union minister for communications, Mr. Kapil sibal, the benefit may come on october this year. But it can not be assured exactly. However many service providers like Airtel, Aircel, Vodafone offer roaming at reduced rates. So we keep hopes on to get such benefits soon.

    Hi member,

I think there is no telecom company offering any type of free roaming. all companies are charging. Some companies like Airtel, Tata ,Aircel and Vodafone are offering low rates on International roaming for their users. In the future some may offer this type of free services for the users.
