How to apply for a PAN card online?

I don't have a PAN card to use it in my PayPal account. I want to know whether I can apply for PAN online or I need any other source to do so. Please tell me how to apply for PAN card online.

Read this thread to know the exact procedure involved in applying for a PAN card online. Also know the charges involved and the approved documents which you can submit for the same.

Applying online for a PAN card essentially consists of 3 steps -
Step 1. Application
  • Visit https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/formula.html
  • Complete the online application for by filling out correct details.
  • Note down 15 digit acknowledgement.
  • Save and print this acknowledgement.

  • Step 2. Mode of payment
  • Processing fee can be paid by cheque/DD or Credit/debit card.
  • Cheque/DD should be drawn in favour of NSDL - PAN payable in Mumbai.
  • On successful payment by credit card, acknowledge meet will be displayed. You need to save and print this acknowledgement and send it to NSDL.

  • Step 3. Checklist and Documents
  • Attach self attested copies of Address proof and identity proof.
  • Affix a colour photograph of 3.5 X 2.5 cm on the space in acknowledgement.
  • Superscribe the envelope as "APPLICATION FOR PAN - Acknowledgement number" and send it to
    Income Tax PAN Services Unit,
    National Securities Depository Limited,.
    Trade World, A wing, 3rd Floor,
    Kamala Mills Compound, Senapati Bapat Marg,
    Lower Parel (W), Mumbai - 400013

  • You can track the status of your application on NSDL site by submitting the acknowledgement number.
