I am planning to buy a tablet for my son studying in SSC. I want to know if there are any tablet brands which come with preinstalled educational apps or tutorials.

What tablet specifications are recommended if one wants to use the same tablet for IIT JEE or other entrance exams preparations?

As far as my knowledge goes, there are no special educational tablets in India. I would suggest you to buy a normal low priced tablet and ask your son to install and use various educational apps which are widely available on Playstore. Most of them are free and some are paid.

You can even buy some educational eBooks online and ask him to read it on your tab PC using an eBook reader app.

Make sure you buy a tablet with basic necessary features only which will enable him to concentrate on only the study aspects and not get distracted.

Some very good low cost tablets are:

HCL Me U1 Price: Rs 4,899
BSNL Penta IS701C Price: Rs 4,999
Micromax Funbook Infinity Price: Rs 4750
Zync Z919, Price: Rs 4,949
Zync Z909 Plus Price: Rs 3,699
Fujezone X88 Price: 4,999
Lava E-Tab Velo+ Price: Rs.3636

Prices are indicated from various eCommerce sites. You can buy the tablets online or offline as per your preference.

Kindle is exclusively meant for reading ebooks. You get lot of preinstalled books as well. There are many other advantages of using kindle tablet compared to other tablets. In kindle, the screen is created such that it does not give any strain to the eyes and also comes with e-ink in which all letters appear more like reading directly.

Other tablets you can try for Google Nexus 7, iPad mini, micromax funbook, Blackberry playbook, HCL 3G tablet and many more.

Previous year iBall launched IIT JEE entrance exam specific tablet named as iBall Edu-Slide. This tablet comes with pre-loaded IIT JEE content. All the contents are IIT JEE related. The contents include physics, chemistry and maths ebooks. You can also take IIT JEE specific test and it will evaluate the score. The contents are in audio as well text basis. The tablet is prices at Rs.30,000. The price is for the contents available in this tablet.

The tablet features 10.1-inch IPS HD with 1280×1024 pixels resolution. It has front and 8 MP back camera. This tablet is powered with Android Jelly Bean V 4.1. It has inbulit storage of 8 GB and can be expandable upto 32 GB via SD card. It has dual-core MediaTek Cortex A9 processor with 1 GB RAM.

For IIT specific iBall tablet contact local stores. You won't be getting this tablet in online stores. I checked this tablet in several online stores and it is not listed for sale.

I hope this is the tablet you are looking for. It seems very costly but the cost is purely for IIT JEE content. For more details check the reference link.

It is better to invest in a good tablet instead of going for cheaper ones. One can install useful educational and learning apps on all tablets (Android based of iOS based). The cheaper tablets do not last long and are not suitable for any kind of rough usage by students. Hence, it is advisable to go for following educational tablets:
Samsung Tablets with 10 inch display or more
Apple Ipad tablets

There may be other cheaper tablets, but, according to me the above two are market leaders in tablet market and one should invest wisely in them.
