I have been looking to purchase few available domain names to be able to do domain reselling at some point of time. Generally, most sought after domain extensions are .com and .in, whereas .co is often available even for pretty good keywords (for domain name). So, I want to understand the usage of .co domain extension and also if it is better than a .org domain extension. Kindly advise.

Most of the websites lives with a domain space such as .com, .net, .biz, or .in etc. Similarly, .co is a new domain extension that offers you a global option to build your Company and mark it's presence online. Basically domain names such as .org, .tv, .movi these are the domains which are niche specified while .co is not. So I believe .co is better than .org which more than 20 countries are using like .co.uk, .co.in etc.

Generally when .com domains are unavailable, people go for .co specially to highlight the country from which it is developed. In the sense that both .com and .co are used for commercial basis. As people use websites mainly for commercial requirements, they always look for these two domain extensions first.

But .org has its own demand when it comes to non-profit organisations. Those websites who are only creating their online presence through the website and it is mainly focused on non-profit organisational benefits will look for .org.

In any case, anybody who is in search of a domain name will want to have both in their hands even if they are non commercial, as they would always want the name of their enterprise to be exclusive and not used by others.

So, the practice is while choosing a domain name, one should always look for a name that is available with both the domain extensions.
