What are the terms: 2G, 3G and 4G? What is the difference among them?

Confused what is 2G, 3G and 4G? Experts here would explain the difference in 2G, 3G and 4G. Follow the responses here to learn more about it.

We often hear people saying 2G, 3G and 4G. I also used these words while speaking to others.

I have a mobile phone, I often take balance of 2G speed of Airtel. But I have no idea about it. Today I go to a mobile shop and tell him that I often take the balance of 2G for internet searching in my net setter sim but I have to wait for downloading the material what we want. So please give me the other device. Then he suggested me the 3G balance.

So I want to know about the terms-2G, 3G and 4G. Members who have much idea about the terms 2G, 3G and 4G are requested to tell me about them in detail. What is the difference among them?

Once the internet connection was just like 'Dial up' connection with low speed or let's say less than 114kbps speed data transfer, later Telecom service of the nation introduced Broadband service with Dial up connection with related cable and device usage for higher speed of 256kbps for Data transfer. This Broadband connection is of almost 2G speed in India which enable you to match older configuration device only at that time for communication, data transfer and net connectivity, now 3G feature is far better speed net connectivity, data transfer and communication compare to 2G speed features.

In the same way, 4G feature is better than 3G speed for net connectivity, data transfer and communication. 3G and 4G feature helps for latest device like Smartphone, Tablet PC, Latest Laptops and Desktops with higher configuration to match the speed to perform better speed and things done quickly. There is of course different price tariff for these different packages at the moment, the price tariff for 2G and 3G or 4G can be reduced in the future as it happens normally for Dial up to Broadband way.

2G and 3G are ancestors of 4G. On the launch of internet and with it's popularity Telecom Companies also started providing internet services. At starting they used GPRS- General Packet Radio Service. People were happy with new service but after sometime Telecom Companies realised that it is getting down day-by-day and the main complained by Users were that they are getting bored with the internet speed and they want increase in speed. At this moment Telecom Companies decided to launch 2G internet which made History in Telecom. It provided users speed upto 256 Kbps which are quite fast at that time. Telecom Companies decided that before they get any other complained they started their project on 3G. The invention of 3G rocked the world and nower it is quite famous and mainly used internet service. It provides you speed upto 21.1 Mbps. 4G was launched recently in 2012 which provides you speed upto 42.2 Mbps which is quite better then 3G. There are expectation that in coming years they will launch 5G internet which will provide speed upto 100 Mbps. So, guys make your pockets tight to spend money on 5G internet.

G refers to Generation. 2G is a second generation wireless technology used in mobile networks. It is the basic technology which makes to be used for internet speed. The mobiles which run in 2G speed will be very slow when compared to 3G and 4G. 2G uses digital networks, so that mobile users got SMS and E-Mailing services in mobile itself. There will be clarity in voice calls through mobile phones. 3G is a third generation wireless technology used in mobile networks. In this 3G, there will be wide band width. Depends on the wide bandwidth, the clarity get high and makes user to be more satisfy in the browsing. It gives better perfection than the 2G. Watching videos will be ease for the present generation users. 4G is a fourth generation wireless technology used in mobile networks. This generation technology is better than 2G and 3G. It supports high resolution movies and videos in the online. Data transfer in this technology is the lightening speed. So users will enjoy lot in this technology.

2G, 3G and 4G, all are types of internet connection. As technology progresses day by day, the need of internet speed and bandwidth also has increased. So these technologies are the invention of demand like increased internet speed, video streaming and downloading/uploading etc. 2G was the first step to increase speed of wireless internet connection. Then it comes 3G with more speed as well as bandwith. 4G as far as India is concerned is fairly new because it is avalaible in few parts of India. The speed of 4G connection is very high than the previous versions, it is possible to download GBs of files in few minutes with 4G connection.

Simply, the "G" stands for "GENERATION" . While you connected to internet, the speed of your internet is depends upon the signal strength that has been shown in alphabets like 2G, 3G, 4G etc. right next to the signal bar on your home screen. Each Generation is defined as a set of telephone network standards , which detail the technological implementation of a particular mobile phone system. The speed increases and the technology used to achieve that speed also changes. For eg, 1G offers 2.4 kbps, 2G offers 64 Kbps and is based on GSM, 3G offers 144 kbps-2 mbps whereas 4G offers 100 Mbps - 1 Gbps and is based on LTE technology . More...
