Several phone making companies like Sony, LG, Huawei, Alcatel, ZTE etc. have shown their interest to make smartphones based on Firefox open source OS. However, in India, the main competition will be between Sony and LG since the others don't have that much penetration into the Indian phone market. It is true that Firefox OS based ZTE Open has been launched in Spain, but its launch in India is not known.
Nevertheless, there are news that Sony will be re-launching its Sony Xperia E that will run on Firefox OS. The indications are that Sony India (Mobile) will be launching the Firefox OS based smartphone in India towards the end of 2013. Although the device has not been named yet, it will be based on the features of Sony Xperia E. So it is likely to have a 3.5 inches touch screen display, a 3.2 Megapixels camera, 512 MB RAM and a 4 GB internal memory. Sony needs a powerful marketplace like Android Play Store for apps. For this reason, Firefox is in contact with leading App manufacturers so that the Firefox OS based smartphones could withstand competition from the Android apps market. We have to wait and see for a few more months if Sony can capture the reasonable share of the smartphone market with its smartphone using the new OS of Firefox.
