The ever first Android version was v1.5 Cupcake which released on April 30, 2009. It was not a big success due to some bugs and less features but after that, Android was growing in no time. It is funny to note that each Android version's name was in alphabetical order, for example, v1.5 Cupcake, v1.6 Donut, v2.0 Eclair and the latest one is v4.3 Jelly Bean. The upcoming version has been named as KitKat but its release date is not fixed yet.
Google use their Nexus series smartphones partnered with other smartphone giants, to release their latest Android version. The latest Goolge-LG Nexus 4 was launched to introduce Android v4.2 which can be now upgraded to v4.3.
Samsung leads the Android market worldwide and as of March 2013, 64% of total Android market share is owned by this brand itself. Samsung's Galaxy series has amazed the users and it's still one of the most selling smartphone series. The latest one Samsung Galaxy S4 now rules the Android smartphone arena with a great selling value especially in Asian countries like India, Pakistan etc.
Nowadays, Android smartphones are available at as low as Rs.3000 in India with outdated Android versions. In India, Micromax gives a tight competition for Samsung and other giants with their cheap and affordable smartphones. Micromax's Canvas series phones have great demand even in outside of India. Karbonn, Spice and Celkon are the other leading Android smartphone manufacturers in India.
